The whole chapter (Genesis 15), is a “Vision” which Abraham had.From Gen.24:63 it is evident that Abram and Isaac used to ‘Meditate’ regularly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_meditation

Here the Lord has a long dialogue ‘Internally’ with Abram…Even cutting of the animals in two pieces(verse 9,10) has to be taken ‘spiritually’
