Macklemore juxtaposes his version of a typical Sunday sermon; diverging from “living on” and “being yourself” churches instead “preach hate” through instilling prejudices into their audiences (in this case about how the church rants against homosexuality). Macklemore therefore illustrates the obvious irony of an institution which carries anointing powers and owns “Holy Water” but creates prejudice. By doing so, they “poison” their possessions and meanings.
