While it is true that the number of new business establishments is down to a 30-year low, Romney’s claim that Obama is to blame for this is false.

According to “experts at the agency that generated the data [Romney is using to support the aforementioned claim, as well as] the organization that analysed it,” Romney misinterpreted the data. Essentially, he is comparing pre-recession data to post-recession data and blaming Obama for the decline in the number of new business establishments rather than the recession itself

This is a classic example of believing correlation implies causation
