My clique should be cancelled: Freaks and Geeks
Freaks and Geeks was a critically acclaimed show that got canceled because it couldn’t find an audience. The show was based on different high school cliques — hence “Freaks” and “Geeks”. The show was notable because it got megaproducer Judd Apatow his first recognition, and also because the cast included such now-Hollywood heavyweights as: James Franco, Jason Segel, Seth Rogen, Steve Higgins and Leslie Mann.
This is also a reference to Community, which also has an ensemble cast that includes Chevy Chase, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Ken Jeong , and the fact that many people (including the cast themselves) thought Community was going to get cancelled after one season like many other great but subversive shows.
Bonus Evidence: In this behind the scenes video for Community, Donald entitles it the “Yeah, We’re Not Cancelled Yet?” Episode.
Ironically, in the middle of its third season, Community was benched to try and turn around NBCs lackluster start to the 2011-2012 schedule. The show was later placed back on the spring schedule. But it wasn’t enough; fortunately NBC opted to order a shortened fourth season (13 episodes), but it will be the show’s last.
Looks like “six seasons and a movie” won’t be happening.
