Baby, me and tuxedo crew; pharaohs, it ain't my tomb
Crazy in the black and white
Janelle Monae is known for wearing black and white tuxedos almost as if it was her uniform.
She explained to the Huffington post :
“It’s a dedication to uniformity and I’m a minimalist by heart, but a lot of it had to do with me wanting to have a uniform like the working class, like my mom and my grandmother.”
It is also the origin of few petty critics at the beginning of her career. She adresses them in the Tightrope remix:
“Ta ta talking about, why don’t she change her clothes?
Well they ain’t seem to mind the last three times I posed in Vogue”
