A native of Compton, California, Kendrick has surely seen the effects of gang rivalry. Bloods and Crips have long been an infamous gang repping red and blue colors respectively. By simply wearing the wrong color in the wrong place, you could get killed.
Dave’s brother is realizing how senseless that violence is. When someone close to you dies, you wonder how something like that could happen for such a futile reason (gangs, affiliation, race).
