Top of the world like pyramids in Giza

from Jay Z (Ft. Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Nas & Swizz Beatz) – BBC Lyrics on Rap Genius

Meaning

Giza, the third largest city in Egypt, is one known for it’s ancient landmarks, the Great Pyramids and the Great Sphinx.

While these pyramids are not longer exactly on top of the world (although, at the time of construction c.2584 BC, they would’ve been the largest man-made structures in the world), they sit around 200 m (656 ft) above sea level. However, the top of the world feeling may be in reference to the riches inside the tombs. Only the most important figures were placed in these tombs, and were decorated in all sorts of jewelry and valuable items.

We can also give the line a different reading: the pyramids are the only one out of the seven wonders of the ancient world that are still in existence today. This being said, Nas might want to imply that he is the only rapper from the older generation that is still relevant in today’s music industry.

Inb4 “this is an Illuminati reference.”
