Now what's one turtle to a couple snails?
Turtles are significantly faster than snails — if it was a battle of who could walk better a snail would win in the same way the “tortoise beat the hare;” slow wins the race.
Here Lu’s playing on the “crawl before you walk” idiom as he mentions in the next line, “takes a long time to happen so fast.” This corresponds with life, explaining that one shouldn’t try and rush things, growing up or dying too fast.
Noting that turtles and snails both have shells, this line also plays on one above:
Had to walk ‘cause it’s hard to run in those unbuckled shells
