Worst news in my life
Him and chemo going 12 rounds with a disease and they're both losing the fight
Crooked I uses a boxing imagery (12 rounds) to describe the battle against cancer. In the end, his uncle and the chemo lost the “fight” as in being unable to defeat the disease.
Also by choosing 12 rounds, he puts emphasis on the longevity of the experience and the pain. It makes you feel the weight of the hope, only to fail in the end. It portrays his Uncle as a soldier that doesn’t fight one or two battles.. but rather the whole war even if he realized the result from the beginning.
