Pour up drank, head shot drank
Sit down drank, stand up drank
Pass out drank, wake up drank
Faded drank, faded drank
from Kendrick Lamar – Swimming Pools (Drank) Lyrics on Rap Genius
Kendrick Lamar stated that this album is practically a window into his past “Compton life” so it could actually be from his perspective, towards our generation, on how people don’t drink moderately anymore, they just want to get hammered.
Those lines describes how parties goes nowadays, in a chronological order, from pouring liquor and shots excessively to passing out. In this case, a head shot ties in with a shot of strong liquor and alludes to the violent nature of his hometown.
To those who might argue that Kendrick often stated that he doesn’t drink or smoke, just note that good kid, m.A.A.d city is him reminiscing about his previous “Compton” life. So he probably doesn’t smoke/drink anymore but he probably used to. Also, some casual drinkers or weed smokers often refer themselves as non-smokers or “people that don’t drink”.
The repetition of the word “faded” should also be noted due to the fact that is a homophone of the word “fated”. This could be in reference to the fact that he is fated to get faded because he has been around those influences his entire life.
